ABC Wednesday: Ferris Wheel

I have recently discovered that the fun of roller coasters has faded with my old age. I think I can trace is back to the day I rode the Superman ride at Geauga Lake. This particular roller coaster starts you laying on your back. When the ride starts you are flipped under the tracks and are now riding on your stomach with just the ground beneath you like you are flying, hence the name Superman.

Well, when I got on, the ride was delayed due to some malfunction. The operators came around for a third time to check everyone's harnesses. Naturally, I assumed someone's harness wasn't properly secured so the ride wouldn't start. Then, just as the ride started to move forward, some smart alec red neck in line yelled at me, "Your harness is broke!!!", with a look of horror in his eyes. The entire ride I held on for dear life, afraid if I let go my harness would release and I would fall to my death.

Before that, I loved roller coasters. My friends and I spent the entire "Band Day at Cedar Point" riding all 15 roller coasters. I waited the extra half an hour in line to get the premium front or back seat. I convinced all of my scared friends that roller coasters where fun and they should ride them with me. I put my hands up on every hill and kept my eyes wide open.

Look who's scared now, wimp. During the only scary roller coaster I rode during our recent trip to Cedar Point I had my eyes closed on every hill, held on for dear life, and screamed. Although, it was the Maverick, the video doesn't do it justice.

I'm getting old.

Great idea for ABC WEd. I feel similar to you...when I was young, it was all thrills & spills. No way now would I get on a roller coaster...be afraid of heart failure ;-)

These ferris wheels are very nice... from the ground!
Excellent picture.

You are one step ahead of me! I have just once been on a ferris wheel and I've never tried a rollercoaster! Nor intend to do so! Watching is quite enough excitement for my poor stomach!

It's been too long since I've been to Cedar Point. Is the Blue Streak still there? (now I'm aging myself!)

The Mavrick is deceiving because it really isn't that high, but thrilling nonetheless.

ah, the days of Cedar Point band trips! How far away they seem. The last time I was at Cedar Point I thought I was going to pass out on the Millenium's first hill. Apparently my circulation couldn't get the blood away from my head or back to my head, or something. But that did it for me.

thanks, Kim - the word "spanking" is like swearing in some circles. Parenting is quite the experience, I tell you what. And you certainly have experience with it, being a nanny. Sometimes dealing with other people's kids is even harder.

You won't get me on a roller coaster ever again! I was absolutely terrified riding it at age 14 - NEVER NEVER NEVER again! LOL

I dont have a head foe heights...even the second rung of a ladder has my heart pounding so I raise my hat to you. I do have memories as a child on various rides, all ending with sickness but I wonder now if the copious amounts of candy floss had anything to do with it! Great post. Thanks so much.

I like how you processed this picture...looks like a painting...(and PS I think the ride that scared you was the batman ride...but could be wrong I only rode it once or twice)
